Hockey players got some rare outside ice time, thanks to the freezing temperatures in Richmond this weekend.
A frozen lake at Garden City Lands in the city centre was the venue for the spontaneous hockey games.
Photos shared on social media included some from Trustee David Yang of the Richmond Board of Education who was among those on the ice.
In a post on X, Yang commented "Nothing more Canadian than playing pond hockey right in the neighbourhood!"
Clay Adams, spokesperson for the City of Richmond, said skating on frozen ponds or areas of water in the city is not recommended and signs were posted around areas warning of possible thin ice.
"We don't encourage or recommend people on the ice even if they appear stable. It can be unpredictable," said Adams.
"If people want to skate safely, we suggest going to the arena."
Meanwhile, Richmond News reader Judy Blacker submitted photos of her complex completely frozen after a pipe burst.
A water spout from the burst pipe caused the area to turn into a miniature frozen landscape with trees and shrubs turning into icicles.
