The powerful windstorm on Saturday resulted in at least 11 downed trees across the City of Richmond, and caused power outages for hundreds of customers.
One call to the city was for a 60-foot tree that had fallen across Seabright Road, near No. 5 and Williams roads, while another large tree on Garden City Road south of Alderbridge Way had city crews out with chainsaws to open up the road.
And a tree that fell across power lines at Westminster Highway and No. 5 Road caused a widespread power outage.
Furthermore, a tree fell on a house in Frigate Court, near Railway Avenue and Garry Street in Steveston.
More than a dozen city workers were working from 3 a.m. onward to respond to downed trees and to monitor dikes and make sure pump stations continued to work.
The city's backup generators ensured no pump stations were out of operation during power outages, explained city spokesperson Clay Adams.
"Overall, city crews were able to respond to and address issue within its area of responsibility quickly during the windstorm," he added.
