Third Age Learning at Kwantlen (TALK) has just released its fall program of courses, as well as topics for its Philosophers’ Corners, which run the gamut at KPU Richmond from Islam to climate change.

“We strive for variety and we have really accomplished it this year; where else can you learn about the history of Buddhism one week, and the American electoral process the next?” said TALK chairperson Dr. Robin Heath.

Heath stresses that there are no quizzes, grades or prerequisites — just the joy of learning something new and meeting interesting people. Although attendees are encouraged to share their own perspectives on topics, the sessions will also appeal to anyone interested in listening to new and often controversial ideas and learning new things.

“It’s all very civilized, but that isn’t code for ‘boring,’ Heath emphasizes. “In fact, the opposite is true.”

On Oct. 4, historian Scott Hughes is back by popular demand at KPU Richmond to share the evolution and beauty of Haida Gwaii in a presentation revealing some of the gems and delights of this remote land.

Then, on Nov. 18, 25, and Dec. 2, TALK features KPU instructor Peter Robbins delivering a three-part course on climate change that addresses the aspects of meteorology, biology and sociology.

Philosopher’s Corners take place at the Steveston Hotel, while regular TALK courses take place at KPU Richmond, 8771 Lansdowne Rd., as well as other KPU campuses. For a full schedule of TALK events, including session overviews, times and locations, and presenter bios, visit kpu.ca/talk.

TALK events are aimed at those who are 50 or older.  Most courses are $15, in addition to the $10 annual membership fee. There is a suggested minimum donation of $2 for each Philosophers’ Corner.
