Urban Bounty is returning with its free Seedy Saturday event this weekend in west Richmond.

This is the first Seedy Saturday event since 2019 and it will include seed-swapping, workshops and demonstrations.

On Saturday, March 8, the Terra Nova Red Barn will be set up for the event, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The highlight of the event is the seed exchange where gardeners can bring their seeds and swap seeds with other participants.

Participants are asked to bring their seeds in labelled envelopes to make the swap easier.

There will also be seeds available for free and by donation at the seed swap table. Vendors will also be selling heritage and heirloom seeds.

The event includes workshops and demonstrations, such as growing edible flowers and herbs by master gardener Michelle Li and learning about the tomato cycle by Karena Hawbolt.

An activity zone for kids will be set up, and families can take part in the Miyawaki Gardens walk and tour.

No admission fee or registration is required, but donation are welcomed benefiting Urban Bounty and its programs.

Urban Bounty's seed program aims to build local seed capacity through education and community engagement.

The program includes initiatives such as the Seedy Saturday event, community seed libraries and a cover crop program to help local gardeners and community gardeners share skills on how to save seeds.

Seedy Saturday will take place this Saturday at 2631 Westminster Hwy.

Urban Bounty is a non-profit society that works on food security issues.
