Richmond plans open house for new $19M Hugh Boyd fieldhouse

Public is invited to give feedback next Wednesday on new Richmond facity.

An open house will be held next Wednesday (April 16) to get feedback on a the West Richmond Pavilion, a 10,000-plus-square-foot fieldhouse that will replace the existing one from 1969 at Hugh Boyd Community Park.

The City of Richmond is holding the open house at the West Richmond Community Centre (9180 No. 1 Rd.) from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to share information on the project and receive public feedback.

Participants can speak with staff and see the impact the facility will have on the community’s recreational and social landscape.

There will also be “fun, interactive games” for children at the open house.

The new facility at Hugh Boyd Community Park, near No. 1 and Francis roads, will be a two-storey, 10,830-square-foot facility designed to enhance community programs, support local sport groups and attract high-profile tournaments and competitions, according to the city.

The fieldhouse is budgeted at $19.85 million, and construction is expected to begin in late 2025 with a completion date in 2027.

Plans for the new facility include a second floor covered outdoor viewing deck, two multipurpose rooms for community programming and sport user groups, public washrooms, change rooms, a referee room, accessibility features and a limited-service kitchen and concession area.

The new facility is planned for the west side of the artificial turf fields where the bleachers are currently located.

The current fieldhouse was built in 1969 and is 975 square feet. It is primarily used for storage.
