A Richmond charity which looks after families is hoping the community can step up and help, after its main fundraiser was once again lost to COVID.
Richmond Family Place has joined the Great Canadian Giving Challenge and is aiming to raise $5,000 during the month of June to help fund their programs and services to families in the city.
For the second year in a row, the organization had to cancel their main golf fundraising event and they are now hoping the June online campaign will help make up at least some of the shortfall in donations.
The Great Canadian Giving Challenge is a national public contest to benefit any registered Canadian charity.
Every dollar donated to Richmond Family Place (RFP) in June via the organization’s website (http://www.richmondfamilyplace.ca/giving/) automatically enters the charity to win an additional $20,000 donation.
“The number of families with young children in Richmond that are becoming financially insecure due to COVID-19 is rising, as is the request from them for support from our team,” said Janice Lambert, RFP’s executive director.
“Charities like ours across Canada are facing fundraising shortfalls and a number of operational challenges due to COVID-19 and the associated social distancing.”
RFP offers a safe and welcoming environment to all families by providing programming that supports children in reaching their full potential.
According to RFP, it promotes “family navigation through relationships, staff members orient families in their day to day family life, providing support where resiliency and capacity are built through connections, promoting community belonging based on respect and inclusion, supporting families to create a social support system.”
