A Richmond father is reeling in shock after discovering a memorial cross for one of his sons was stolen last week.

Shane Moses, who used to go by the name Vernon Moses, said he rode up to No. 4 Road, just south of Steveston Highway, on Thursday planning to spend some time with his two sons' crosses.

However, he found one of the two crosses had been removed from the ground.

The crosses were in memory of Moses' sons Jess, 16, and Shane, 19, who were killed in a car crash in May 2012.

"When I rode up and I saw that Jess' cross was not there, I was in shock. I was just flabbergasted," said Moses.

"I go down all the time to eat a sandwich and sit and look at the crosses and spend some time there."

Both crosses are made of stainless steel, with an image of each son and lights on them.

Moses looked around the fields, hoping the cross had simply fallen over, but he soon realized someone had taken it out of the ground and it was replaced by a little brown cross.

"I don't know when it was taken out of the ground, in the last couple months or so, but whoever took it needs to either give it back or put it back," he said, adding he was shaken up after finding it missing.

"They're buried together in White Rock, there's even a bench for them in Terra Nova. They're together forever, why would somebody take a cross?

"I don't understand it. I'm not going to get pissed off about it because my sons wouldn't, but please just return it."
