Tree chipping takes place in Steveston every year.

With the winter holidays coming to an end, it's once again that time of the year for Richmond residents to recycle their Christmas trees.

The Richmond Firefighters Charitable Society (RFCS) is holding its annual tree chipping event this weekend on Jan. 4 and 5 at Garry Point Park.

Residents can drop off their real trees from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on either days and make a donation to the RFCS to have the tree put through the wood chipper.

Tree chips will be recycled and used all over the city and monetary donations collected from the event will go back into helping the community.
