A much-needed $1,000 has been raised for the Richmond-based Wigs for Kids BC.
In January and February, Ego Hair Salon – near No. 5 Road and Steveston Highway – pledged $50 to Wigs for Kids for each ponytail they cut.
They raised a total of $1000 and collected 18 ponytails, including that of Richmond’s Duke Piche.
Wigs for Kids’ chair, Bev Friesen, said the money has come in at a really difficult time for the charity, which provides a free wig to any child in B.C. who has lost their hair to cancer or other illnesses.
Wigs for Kids also helps families financially with the costs of feeding supplies and certain cancer medications not covered by MSP.
“We have not been able to host any of our events to raise the money needed to support the program due to the pandemic,” said Friesen.
