The Richmond Hospital Foundation is aiming to raise funds to help improve surgical equipment, as surgeries resume after COVID-19 postponements.
The initiative, Surgical Restart, is fundraising with a goal of more than $2 million for equipment to improve surgical needs and specialties.
“As scheduled surgeries resume post COVID-19 and backlogs are cleared, we know there is a great and urgent need for surgical equipment,” said Dr. Daniel Kopac, head of surgery at Richmond Hospital.
“Having state-of-the art equipment allows us to use new groundbreaking surgical techniques, allowing our patients in Richmond to benefit sooner from equipment that has become the new standard care.”
The Surgical Restart campaign, said the foundation, is highlighting a new portable and “minimally invasive” surgical system where four of eight operating rooms will have an upgrade of wireless connection and 4K resolution to their screens.
These screens will help invasive surgeries like abdominal, colon cancer and orthopedic procedures.
Minimally invasive surgeries are faster, not as painful and have a faster healing rate, according to the foundation.
In addition, the new equipment list includes SPY technology, which allows surgeons to see proper blood flow to organs in real-time, so surgeons can perform procedures with greater accuracy.
