Richmond's Granville Gardens Housing Co-operative is the recipient of a $4,000 grant to implement sustainability initiatives.
The Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) offered the grant as a part of its 40th-anniversary celebration, and eligible projects included greening initiatives and climate change adaptations.
"We received more than a dozen applications that highlighted co-op creativity... We're happy there was such a response to our sustainability initiative," read CHF BC's announcement.
The Granville Gardens co-op is planning to use the grant to install a heat pump in its community hall, as well as provide shade over an outdoor pergola to create a cooling area for its members.
The 94-unit co-op was built in 1982, just next to the Thompson Community Centre. Apart from the community hall, it also has a playground and a fenced basketball/ hockey/ playing area.
