Seven-year-old Thomas Chen flew out to Japan this week after he was picked as one of two child artists to represent Canada in the Toyota Dream Car Contest for age 15 and under.

Thanks to his stand-out car design, called “The Book Creator Car,” Thomas is taking part in the final in Japan with 30 other winners after being chosen from more than 850,000 submissions from around the world, all of whom were challenged to share their ideas about the future of mobility by drawing their dream futuristic car.

Thomas, who’s from Richmond but a student at West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver, said: “It’s my first real trip to Japan. I can’t wait to see Fuji Mountain and I hope I can share my work with other kids from all over the world.”
