Richmond-based Blanket BC Society is this year's winner for the 2024 National Volunteer Week Photo Contest.
National Volunteer Week, observed from April 14 to 20, celebrates the important of volunteers and their work for the community.
The National Volunteer Week Photo Contest, hosted by Volunteer BC, invited individuals throughout the province to submit photos that capture the theme "Every Moment Matters."
Blanket BC Society submitted a photo of a young volunteer working as a "warmth warrior" and providing blankets to those who need them the most.
The Richmond non-profit collects and distributes blankets and warm clothing to shelter programs and families in need.
"Volunteering at an early age can instill a sense of empathy, responsibility, and community engagement," said Gregory Ould, co-founder of Blanket BC Society.
"It helps young people develop important social skills, gain valuable experience, and explore their interests while making a positive impact on the world around them. It also helps create a beautiful community."
Subrina Monteith, executive director of Volunteer BC, said the number of photo submissions for the contest illustrates the provide B.C. residents have in their communities for volunteers.
"This winning photo celebrates the strong contribution, dedication and diversity that community volunteers provide at any age," said Monteith.
