Richmond resident Dave Chan's 2024 giant pumpkin has beaten his last year's record by 40 pounds.

This year, his 2,252-pound gourd won him $7,500 at a competition the Carpinito Bros. Farm in Kent, Wash., and is the largest Canadian pumpkin so far this year, although there are other competitions coming up.

Last year, Chan grew a 2,212-pound pumpkin and it took first prize at a competition in Sacramento, Calif., netting him $20,000. This was also Canada's largest recorded pumpkin by weight.

With the prize money in his pocket, Chan told the Richmond News in an email that "I think I’m starting to break even with my hobby - lol."
