The Richmond RCMP’s 10th annual toy drive broke records this year, raising more than $33,000 and taking in 2.5 tonnes of toys in donations.

The toy drive was held on Nov. 23 at Lansdowne Centre in support of the Richmond Christmas Fund, a program of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives.

At the event, there were ball hockey games featuring Richmond Sockeyes hockey players, RCMP officers and community leaders.

There were also photos with Santa and mini donuts for donors.

All participants received complimentary tickets to a Richmond Sockeyes game.

Supt. Julie Drotar, senior operations officer with the Richmond RCMP, said the community’s support was “incredible.”

“Every donation will brighten a family’s holiday season, making this milestone year unforgettable,” she said.

Ed Gavsie, president and CEO of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, thanked everyone who contributed to the toy drive.

“With the growing need in our community, events like this highlight the power of collective compassion,” he said.
