Charity airplane-drag event at YVR aims to pull in donations for United Way

OK, so it might take quite a few of them to shift a 63-tonne Boeing 757-200, but the kids will still be pulling their weight at the annual UPS Plane Pull for United Way at YVR next month.

If you are looking to help “pull” for a good cause, the folks at UPS on Sea Island have an idea you can get “in front of.”

On Sept. 17 the company is hosting its third annual UPS Plane Pull for United Way of the Lower Mainland. And the public is invited to come and cheer on teams of 15 people as they haul a 63-tonne Boeing 757-200 15 feet down the runway at the UPS facility at YVR from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kids can also flex their muscles and pull a smaller plane, a Cessna weighing 6,000 lbs., tour the cockpit of the Boeing, and enjoy carnival games and face painting.

For the adults, an added attraction this year is a show and shine featuring cars from 1929 to the present.

And if all of that helps you build up an appetite, food available for sale on site will include White Spot burgers and milkshakes, popcorn and lemonade.

This all-ages fundraising event raises money to help children, families and seniors in the Lower Mainland.

UPS Canada is a long-time and strong supporter of United Way and for the past 15 years the company has helped raise more than $1 million each year for United Ways across Canada.

The United Way helps move families from “poverty to possibility,” assists kids to make the right choices so they can be all that they can be and helps build strong communities for all.

UPS on Sea Island is located at 5960 Ferguson Road. Free parking will be available on site.
