Despite many hotels, offices and apartment towers being built in Richmond, the tallest building in the city is far from any of these.

Lafarge Tower, also known as Lafarge Canada Inc.’s Richmond Cement Plant, is the city’s tallest building at a height of 113.39 meters or 34 stories high.

The steel skyscraper, according to Emporis, opened in 1999 as part of a $140 million state-of-the art modernization program and is located on Westminster Highway and No. 9 Road in east Richmond.

Last summer, the cement plant launched a new lower carbon fuel system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions after receiving a grant of $14 million from the provincial government.
