Three Richmond students will head to the annual BC Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria next month.

Cyrus Chen from Cornerstone Christian Academy, Jules Jouvin from Ecole des Navigateurs and Matthew Wang from William Bridge Elementary recently received the BC Heritage Fairs Stellar Achievement Award at the 22nd annual Richmond Regional Heritage Fair.

Chen, Jouvin and Wang created displays on the following topics respectively: One Team One Mission, Steveston and Our Forgotten Past.

The Richmond fair, which took place at the Richmond Cultural Centre on May 10, saw 123 local students from seven local elementary schools showcase their knowledge of Canada's heritage in English and French.

Awards in 17 categories were presented to 27 students, including Chen, Jouvin and Wang.

The Heritage Fair program is an annual initiative for elementary and secondary students to research stories from the past ranging from family to national history. Students are first asked to present their projects at school, and exceptional projects are selected for the regional fair, where students can also participate in heritage workshops and field trips.

From the regional fair, judges will nominate three students to present their projects at the provincial fair, where they will participate in a five-day history camp in a B.C. city.

This year's provincial fair will be held in Victoria from July 2 to 5. For more information on the Richmond Regional Heritage Fair and a full list of winners, visit richmondmuseum.ca/heritage-fair.
