1. Richmond Oympic parkrun: Saturday Feb. 18:

If you’re still hanging in there with a New Year’s commitment to get in better shape but haven’t been able to venture out due to the recent poor weather, do not fear. The weekly Richmond Olympic parkrun is ready to help you get your legs moving each Saturday morning. It is a 5 km run — it’s you against the clock, so run at your own pace — that starts each Saturday at 9 a.m. at the riverside footpath near the intersection of Cambie Street and River Road (7891 Cambie Road). The event is free, but register before your first run online at ParkRun.ca. You only need to register with parkrun once. And bring along your printed copy of your barcode which will provide you with the time for your run. Following each event there is a post parkrun coffee in the Tim Hortons at 4151 No 3 Road.

2. Heritage Week: Saturday and Sunday Feb. 18 – 19:

Bone up on some local maritime history this weekend during the last two days (Feb. 18 – 19) of Heritage Week at Britannia Shipyard National Historic Site (5180 Westwater Drive). From 12 – 5 p.m. celebrate “My Canada” by touring historic buildings and create traditional maritime crafts. The event is free to the public. Many of the buildings on the site date back to 1885 and tell the stories of multi-ethnic residents and workers at the Britannia Cannery and Britannia Shipyards: Chinese, European, First Nations and Japanese. The collection of buildings has national value and was designated a National Historic Site in 1992 by the National Historic Sites and Monuments Board.

3. Minoru Park plans: Saturday Feb. 18:

Want to have your say about the future of Minoru Park? The public will be given a chance to do just that during the Minoru Park Vision Plan Open House on Feb. 18 at Richmond City Hall (6911 No. 3 Road) from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Information boards, activities for all ages and a survey will be available. For more information, call the city’s parks department at 604-244-1208, or email [email protected].
