Hundreds gathered at the cenotaph by Richmond City Hall for the annual Nov. 11 ceremony to commemorate those who have served and those who passed away in service of Canada.
This year, in addition to wreaths being laid down by various military, cadet and government organizations, a wreath was laid to remember two Richmond men of Japanese descent who served in the Frist World War.
Their names, Pte. Kazuo Harada and Pte. Hikotaro Koyanagi, were added to the cenotaph in June in a rededication ceremony.
These are the first Japanese Canadian names added to the Richmond cenotaph, more than 100 years after the two soldiers died.
