Everyone is in need of kindness especially during this time as the whole world is battling a pandemic.

Random Acts of Kindness Day is celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 17, or Random Acts of Kindness Week from Feb. 14 to 20, and is an annual tradition of showing kindness to others to bring positivity to people’s lives.

According to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, evidence shows that there are positive effects of “doing kind acts for others as well receiving or evening witnessing kindness." Kindness can take different forms such as saying something comforting or even a smile as you pass by a neighbour.

This year’s theme is to “Explore the Good and Make Kindness the Norm” and here are a few ways the foundation is suggesting people to do to celebrate the week:

  • Make a kindness jar by writing down every act of kindness you witness and placing it in a jar
  • Write a letter to someone who has changed your life for the better
  • Write a letter to yourself describing your strengths and skills
  • Create a blessing bag by gathering items in a bag for a temporarily displaced resident and give it to the next person who could use a “lift me up.”
