After hosting Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade must have been feeling the pressure.
When you’ve already asked two of the world’s most famous women to come to Vancouver, who’s next?
Ellen, of course.
Ellen-no-second-name-required DeGeneres.
With no slight to the two former first ladies, Ellen’s popularity is evidenced by the choice of venue for the October 19 event. The moderated question-and-answer conversation will take place at Rogers Arena.
“Ellen DeGeneres continues to deliver uplifting, inspiring and hilarious experiences for her fans,” the press release announcing the event says. “Her distinctive comedic voice and infectious personality have earned her recognition as a household name and global entertainer. ‘A Conversation with Ellen DeGeneres’ will highlight her one-of-a-kinds sense of humour, warmth and kindness.”
The event will be presented by TD. “Ellen is more than just a comedian and entertainer,” says Mauro Manzi, TD’s senior vice-president for the Pacific region. “Like TD, she's also a strong supporter of women, diversity and inclusion, the LGBTQ2+ community and other humanitarian causes. We look forward to her appearance in October."
"We are thrilled to have an opportunity to host Ellen in Vancouver this fall for a candid discussion on her life, career, success, and overcoming adversity," said Iain Black, the board of trade’s president and CEO. "Her own history, and her phenomenal success building her brand, shared in her own words, will surely offer many valuable insights for our members."
VBOT’s members get first dibs on tickets, which go on sale July 31 at 10 a.m. Ticket sales will then be opened to the public at a later date.
