The circus is coming back to Richmond this year, bringing with it live entertainment, high-flying acrobatics, death-defying tricks, clowning and feats of strength.
From May 9 to 20, the Royal Canadian Family Circus will set up its big top tents outside Lansdowne Centre, offering 20 shows.
“It’s an incredible showcase of elite circus artists from all around the world that has been designed for multi-generational families,” said circus ringmaster Joseph Bauer in a statement.
“It’s the essence of a traditional circus; this year families from across Canada will be fascinated by the amazing new global cast of performers coming to perform for families.”
Keeping this tradition is something the circus is proud of.
“Ninety-five per cent of our performers were born in the circus and learned their performance skills in the ring, from maybe three years old. That’s what they live; that’s their life,” Cathy Sproule, director of public relations for the circus told the Richmond News when the circus was last in town.
“Their families have been doing this for four generations, six generations or even 10 generations. It's like a little circus village that comes into town.”
One tradition that has shifted dramatically, however, is the use of animals. In fact, the Royal Canadian Family Circus has no exotic animals or endangered species.
Tickets are now on sale at www.royalcanadiancircus.ca. General admission tickets begin at $25 per person, with VIP tickets and ringside seating priced at $35 and $50 respectively.
