It came from Japan, and the creative mind of pastry wizard Dominique Ansel: The watermelon ice cream sandwich that’s become the insta-goals treat of summer 2018.
Ansel, who is the man responsible for putting “cronut” in our vocabulary, launched the treat last summer in his Tokyo shop, but it’s still making waves thanks to Facebook videos and local copies of the pretty in pink treat.
Made with a hollowed-out slice of watermelon that’s studded with chocolate “seeds” and filled with watermelon soft serve, Vancouver foodies will now find the dessert at Milkcow in Richmond.
Milkcow is a Korean-based soft serve shop that opened their first Canadian location earlier this year here in Metro Vancouver. They are known for their eye-catching sundaes topped with cotton candy and other tricked out toppings.
Milkcow is located at 105-5668 Hollybridge Way in Richmond, and they’re open 2-10 pm Monday-Thursday and 2-11 pm Friday-Sunday.
