An artist who painted a mural for the Canada Line Capstan Station that opened today, Dec. 20, now has a piece up in Coquitlam.
This month, the city unveiled the colourful creation by Laura Kwok at the Getaway Youth Centre (630 Poirier St.).
Titled “There Is Always Good in the World,” the artwork honours the innovation of Coquitlam teens. Located at the facility entrance, the city mural was designed and created with the help of youth in partnership with United Way BC.
“Thank you to the 30+ teens who helped design and paint this vibrant piece,” Kwok wrote on social media. “May this mural live on as a reminder of your youthful spirit in the years to come.”
Kwok also thanked Dulux Paints in Coquitlam for the materials.
Inspired by nature, wildlife and travel, Kwok also has painted murals in her hometown of Richmond, including at:
- “Seasons of Colour”
- 7660 Minoru Gate
- “Passages”
- 3311 Carscallen Rd. (for the Canada Line Capstan Station)
- “Ladybug and the Sun”
- 9180 No. 1 Rd.
Last year, Kwok painted “Tree of Life (A Passage of Time)” at 928 Brunette Ave., at Zara’s Hair and Beauty Salon, as part of Coquitlam’s Streetscape Enhancement Program.
Over the past two years, seven murals have gone up under the municipal program that’s designed to brighten and celebrate the community with more art, street furniture and lighting:
