Two Richmond arts organizations profit will be benefiting from a share of $4.3 million in arts-and-culture funding from the provincial government.
Cinevolution, a non-profit society, and the Richmond Museum Society each received $50,000 through the province’s Pivot Program, administered by the BC Arts Council.
The funding is meant to support the organizations who, faced with temporary venue closures and restricted audience sizes, have needed to find new ways to keep creating and reaching their audiences.
“People in the arts have used their ingenuity to find new ways to keep creating despite the pandemic,” said Melanie Mark, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, in a statement.
“Artists are so vital to our social and cultural fabric. These grants are empowering artists and organizations throughout B.C. to adapt their platforms so they can continue inspiring us.”
In total, $4.3 million in grants was awarded to 189 artists and organizations in the Lower Mainland. The grants are made possible in part through $5.3 million from B.C.’s economic recovery plan.
Across B.C., more than 135 artists and 155 organizations have received a total of $6.6 million to support their adaptations during the pandemic.
