The City of Richmond’s Engaging Artists in Community Program is looking for organizations to work with local artists in addressing social issues through art.
Through the program, non-profits and other local organizations can provide selected artists with a “safe and inclusive space” to create projects such as public performances, sculptures, workshops and other socially-engaged art forms.
The city is currently looking for community partners for the 2024 intake.
This year, Ferris elementary is working with artist J Peachy to teach students emergency preparedness in the “Creative Community Resilience Project.”
Meanwhile, Aaron Friend Lettner, the Sharing Farm and Terra Nova Nature School are raising awareness on the impact of climate and weather patterns on local ecology through “Garden Time.”
Finally, artist Mariana Frochtengarten is working with the East Richmond Community Association at Tait Riverfront Park to encourage residents to share their stories through “Weaving Lives Together.”
The application deadline is Monday, July 10 for the 2024 projects. Successful applicants will be notified this August, when city staff will work with applicants to develop the artist opportunity.
Organizations are encouraged to contact [email protected] or call 604-204-8671 before applying. For more information and to apply, click here.
