Richmondites can watch some critically acclaimed films for free at an upcoming event.
This year, Richmond has joined the annual National Canadian Film Day festivities to showcase some highly-rated films at Richmond Cultural Centre Performance Hall on April 17.
“This event is more than just a film screening; it's an exploration of Canadian cinematic identity,” said Cinevolution Media Arts Society in a press release.
They will be co-hosting the screenings with the City of Richmond, in a press release.
Three films will hit the screen in Richmond, including Antigone, Canada's official submission for the International Feature Film category at the 2019 Oscars, and Window Horses, a story about family, culture and self-discovery through the eyes of a young Canadian poet of Chinese and Persian heritage.
Ru, the 2023 adaptation of Kim Thúy’s Governor General Award-winning novel of the same name, will also be shown on the same day.
National Canadian Film Day (CanFilmDay), organized by Reel Canada, is an annual celebration that aims to showcase diversity within Canadian filmmaking.
