If you fancy the chance to design a barn owl mascot for a City of Richmond energy facility, then now is the time to put pencil to paper.

To celebrate the launch of the Lulu Island Energy Company’s new online Kids Corner, young Richmondites aged from four to 17 are being urged to come up with their mascot designs and win a prize for their class.

The company — a wholly owned-municipal corporation, established to operate district energy systems in the City of Richmond — operates the Alexandra District Energy Utility, which is in the direct flight path of the native barn owl and staff installed a barn owl box on site to mitigate disturbance.

Any entry must be created by Richmond residents aged four to 17 and all designs must be their own original work.

The design must fit on a white piece of paper no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches and be submitted to the city before the contest deadline on Friday, Dec. 23 at 5 p.m.

To find out more about the contest, visit online at LuluIslandEnergy.ca and click on the Kids Corner webpage.

The Alexandra facility uses renewable sources of energy, such as geothermal, to centralize energy production for heating, cooling and/or domestic hot water.
