The Richmond Public Library is once again hosting its annual Lunar New Year couplets contest.
A Chinese couplet is often referred to as two complementary poetry lines that are written on red paper with black ink.
Some couplets describe the beauty of nature while others convey best wishes for the coming year, and while they should have the same metre, they don’t have to rhyme.
The library is encouraging community members to help complete the second line of their couplet.
The first line is:
The white tiger comes out from the mountain. His righteous air blows away bad luck.
Submissions can be done online at https://www.yourlibrary.ca/couplets-contest/
The deadline is February 1.
