A new mural now decorates the exterior entrance of the Richmond Minoru Arena.

Members of the Richmond Arenas Community Association were joined by Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie and city councillor Bill McNulty on Oct. 25 to commemorate the new mural.

The mural by artist Carolyn Wong is titled "Gathering Pond" and celebrates the Richmond community by drawing inspiration from the heart of the ice rink, according to Dominic Poon, chair of Richmond Arenas Community Association.

The ice rink is a place where people come together in "the spirit of play and connection," according to Poon.

"The mural captures the dynamic energy of ice sports - hockey, ringette, lacrosse, skating and more - people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities playing together in harmony," he said.

Poon highlighted Wong's work, her love for storytelling and vibrant illustrations celebrating nature and community values in Richmond.

Wong's mural was commissioned as part of the 2024 City of Richmond Community Mural Program.
