On Saturday, the village of Steveston was the location for an annual artistic painting competition.
Artists from near and far registered to compete in several categories.
All painters had to complete their work within a strict three-hour time limit.
This year, the classic event hosted 150 artists, 30 artisans and four musical groups.
Over 100 dedicated volunteers provided logistics, food and photography to make the enterprise work.
The activities were spread over more than 40 locations. The three-kilometre circuit ran from Britannia National Historic Site to Garry Point Park. Each artist had an assigned area.
The lively event included face painting at an artisan market, photo booths and food trucks.
The beautiful paintings were on display and available for purchase at the Seine Net Loft on Sunday.
It is remarkable that a city the size of Richmond has an artistic competition and display that would be the envy of cities with millions of people.
The event is the brainchild of Mark Glavina from Phoenix Art Workshop.
The Grand Prix of Art is presented by the Traveling Brush in partnership with the City of Richmond, Phoenix Art Workshop, Rotary Club of Richmond, Tourism Richmond, Penta Builders Group, Mary Ann Burrows, Steveston Insider, Original Sausage Haus, Re/Max and the Steveston Harbour Authority.
Check out the Phoenix Art Workshop website in June 2025 for information on next year’s event.
