Some Richmond artists will join a group of painters of Taiwanese origin to present their work at a Vancouver exhibit.
As part of the 2024 Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Festival, 34 artists will showcase their artwork at the Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza in downtown Vancouver from June 29 to July 1.
This includes Richmond-based Taiwanese Canadian artists Lucy Lu, Maguy Lee, Ivy Wong and Julie Chang.
"We hope to introduce Taiwanese art and culture to people in Vancouver through the exhibition," said Lu, vice-president of Western Canada Taiwanese Artist Society, co-host of the exhibit.
She said the majority of the art pieces on display will be oil paintings, including some showcasing scenery and local customs painted by artists from Taiwan.
"My painting features lotus flowers from the pond in my yard. Lotus is a type of flower that's well-liked in Asian countries and represents wealth and good fortune," said Lu.
Having lived in Richmond for more than 30 years, Lu said there is a great art atmosphere in the city and opportunities for artists here to do art sharing and exchange.
In addition to the exhibit, this year's Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Festival will also introduce "Taiwan Tourism Exhibition" - large screens will be set up on the site to play videos introducing tourism in Taiwan and participants can play games to win prizes, according to the organizer.
