A Richmond resident and stand-up comedian will take his final bow at a B.C. show on Friday before leaving the province.

Taylor Moorey is hosting a theatrical show called "An Evening with Dead Weight Citizens Brigade" on July 5 at the Arts Umbrella Theatre. The show will feature live experimental music and both pre-recorded and live sketch comedy.

After the show, Moorey will move to Montreal to pursue more artistic opportunities.

Moorey described the show as Gesamtkunstwerka German word meaning "total work of art," with an Avant-garde style combining music and comedy.

"It's a very theatrical atmosphere with some very strange music and some soundtrack music from TV, movies and games," he said. It will feature talented musicians, including Vancouver metal band The Evan Williams Project, comedians and actors.

The show's theme revolves around the phrase "wake up to the world around you," something Moorey's mentor said to him.

"You don’t have to go to Netflix to find something really good. You can look in your own backyard," said Moorey.

"It's a message that I want to remind myself and share with audiences too."

The McMath alumnus said he often stays behind the scenes, but because he is the frontman of the band for this show, he has to make some exceptions.

"Being painted up in weird make-up and turned into this pseudo-quasi-Nordic shaman type of cult person is a thing I can stand and hide behind during this performance," said Moorey.

"I think anything that I make is going to be a little weird and a little confusing for some people sometimes."

However, Moorey hopes the community enjoys the music and has a great laugh while supporting local Canadian performing artists.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. on July 5 at 1400 Johnston St. with the show starting at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $33.50 by clicking here or $40 at the door.
