A runway show highlighting Chinese fashion aims to boost children's and mothers confidence.

A model management school in Richmond is organizing a fashion show to boost the confidence of mothers and their children while highlighting Chinese fashion through time.

Ace Model Management will present its Dragon's Runway show, featuring a blend of traditional and modern Chinese styles from 2-4:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Riverside Palace Hall in Richmond.

The event will also raise funds for Vancouver General Hospital.

Owner Ashley Cheng said a special segment of the show will include parent and sibling duos walking the runway together.

"On a runway, you don't really see a mom and their child together. It's just the child model. We emphasize on building confidence and working together at our school, but we think parents and moms need that, too," said Cheng.

"I feel that by bringing the moms together and for them to have their own time on the stage to shine it's like a confidence booster for them as well."

She added that they want to "allow them to celebrate a special moment that's only for them" with their kids on the runway.

The show will guide guests through a timeline of Chinese fashion, starting with Chinese traditional hanfu outfits and moving to modern-day wedding gowns, dresses and outfits, Cheng said.

When asked why Chinese fashion is the focus, she said it reflects the heritage of most of her students.

Cheng mentioned many of her students knew little about their cultural heritage and have not experienced wearing traditional Chinese clothing.

"We want to give them that chance to learn literally in the clothes and ... also incorporate Chinese cultural activities like calligraphy and other activities before the technology took over," she said.

"We want to bring some of that back and showcase it at our event."

Dragon's Runway will also see various pageant representatives including Miss Canada Globe, Miss Canada 2024 and Madam Canada 2022.

While tickets are no longer available for the public, Cheng announced she hopes to have more opportunities to showcase similar events to the community.
