The pandemic has forced many to face the difficult loss of loved ones. To honour that loss and acknowledge those who are still grieving, the Richmond Orchestra and Chorus Association (ROCA) is holding an “In Memoriam” concert tomorrow.
“Brigid (Coult), our artistic director, thought it was time to recognize all the things that have been going on with COVID and to grieve,” says Vincent Ho, administrator for the association. “We want to remember those we’ve lost.”
ROCA offered anyone in the community the opportunity to share names of loved ones who have passed in the last few years. Those names will be included in the concert program, Ho added.
This will be ROCA’s first memoriam concert. The Orchestra and Choir will perform “music of remembrance” from funeral marches to classical works including Edward Elgar’s Nimrod and Gabriel Fauré's Requiem.
More than 100 attendees are expected for the concert at 7:30 p.m. in South Arm United Church. General admission tickets are still available and are $20. Anyone who is not able to attend the concert can watch it online throughout the month of December by donation.
Other ROCA performances this holiday season include its Christmas Chorus “Magnificat” on Dec.10, and its annual Food Bank Fundraiser concert on Dec. 13. It will also host various carolling gigs throughout Richmond.
Tickets for any of these events are available on www.roca.ca
