A Hong Kong cafe in Richmond is temporarily closed after a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) inspection revealed unsanitary conditions and a pest infestation.
Super Stars Cafe on Leslie Road, between Hazelbridge Way and No. 3 Road, was slapped with a closure order on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
The restaurant remained close when the Richmond News stopped by on Thursday. A sign announcing a two-day closure and wishing customers a happy holiday was stuck on the door, next to the VCH closure order.
The order states Super Stars violated requirements to maintain equipment and utensils in a sanitary condition and to ensure the premises is free of pests.
Super Stars was ordered to thoroughly clean the premises, discard all food items "infested/affected by rodent droppings and/or cockroaches" and store all food items in pest-proof containers.
The restaurant must also hire pest control to put pest management measures in place.
A search of Super Stars Cafe on VCH's database shows it has two outstanding non-critical infractions and seven critical infractions.
