The City of Richmond has launched a new program to help businesses recycle correctly and reduce commercial waste.
The new Business Recycling Resources Program provides free online toolkits and resources, as well as workshops by industry for businesses in the city.
“It is essential to recycle correctly so we can reduce waste and support a circular economy,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie, noting 70 per cent of waste in Richmond is already diverted from the landfill.
“This new program engages our business community and supports their efforts to become regional leaders in commercial waste diversion.”
As part of the new program, there will be in-person and online workshops on how to recycle correctly, what to consider when contracting a waste hauler and what reuse and refill options are, according to the city.
Business owners can also review or download online toolkits which include information such as a checklist for creating a recycling and waste reduction plan, an overview of bylaws and regulations about banned materials and how to deter illegal dumping, unsightly premises and rodents, and tools to calculate and assess waste.
The new Business Recycling Resources Program was developed in response to input from local businesses, organizations and waste hauler companies that participated in the city’s Commercial Recycling Services Review, said the city.
