Riverside Palace Banquet Hall on Knox Way was shut down for improper dishwashing and pest infestation.

A Richmond event venue was shut down for one day after a health inspection revealed a pest infestation and improper dishwashing practices.

Riverside Palace Banquet Hall, at Knox Way near Burdette Street, was closed from Jan. 18 to 19 after receiving a Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) closure order.

Five critical infractions were found during the Jan. 18 inspection, including a pest infestation and lack of sufficient washing to remove contamination using its mechanical dishwasher or glasswasher.

The premises was found to be unsanitary and the inspection report also noted food at the venue was "unfit for human consumption" and not protected from contamination.

However, employee personal hygiene was found to be maintained and potentially hazardous food was refrigerated at a temperature that kept it safe to eat.

VCH records show the event venue reopened last Friday, Jan. 19.
