A Richmond company was fined after its employees were found spraying pesticide without wearing protective gear.

A berry farm in Richmond was slapped with a stop-work order and a fine after its workers were seen spraying pesticide without protective gear.

WorkSafeBC fined Birak Berry Farms Ltd. $6,037.66 in July 2023 after an inspection revealed two workers did not have valid pesticide applicator certificates in addition to not wearing personal protective clothing or equipment.

The regulatory body found "high-risk violations" on the worksite including the failure to ensure safe storage of hazardous substances.

The company was also found to have failed to provide protective gear, training, instructions, and supervision to workers and ensure their health and safety.
