There were 253 new cases of COVID-19 detected in Richmond over the past week (April 16 to 22), according to the latest data from the BC Centre for Disease Control.
This is up slightly from the week prior (April 9 to 15), when 210 cases were detected.
In total, there have been 3,468 cases of the virus in Richmond since the start of the pandemic.
Richmond continues to detect an average of 10 to 20 cases per 100,000 population each day, according to the BCCDC. The North Shore-Coast Garibaldi region is also seeing daily cases in this range.
Meanwhile, Vancouver is reporting between 20 and 30 daily cases per 100,000 population.
Richmond Hospital will be cancelling non-urgent surgeries for at least the next two weeks, due to the high number of COVID-19 patients in hospital.
Eight other Metro Vancouver hospitals are also cancelling elective surgeries during this period, Health Minister Adrian Dix announced on Thursday.
As of Tuesday – the latest data available from Vancouver Coastal Health – there were 18 COVID-19 patients at Richmond Hospital, including 10 patients in the COVID-19 unit, seven in intensive care and one in emergency.
The ICU was at 95-per-cent base-bed capacity and the entire hospital was at 97-per-cent base-bed capacity, according to VCH.
However, the need to staff surge capacity means some services need to be reduced, Dix said on Thursday.
In total, 1,750 non-urgent surgeries across VCH and Fraser Health are being cancelled and will be rebooked at a later date.
Cases also continue to remain high across the province, with 1,001 new infections reported on Friday. There are 486 people in hospital in B.C., 160 of whom are in intensive care.
