Two men were seen fighting at Yaohan Centre last Friday, resulting in Richmond RCMP being called to the scene.
RCMP said, however, the incident was determined to be a “consensual fight.”
“At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Jan. 12, Richmond RCMP were called … for an alleged fight between two men,” said Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, in a statement.
“Upon attending Richmond RCMP frontline (officers) spoke with witnesses as well as the two parties involved. Based on the information gathered, this incident was determined to be a consensual fight.”
A "consensual fight" refers to instances where two people agree to engage in a physical altercation.
The law allows consensual fights, but if bodily harm is caused as a result and was intended, consent is no longer valid, according to Lakin Afolabi Law Professional Corporation.
It is unclear why the two individuals decided to have a consensual fight at the shopping mall on No. 3 Road.
“Due to privacy reasons, we are not able to provide any further information about this investigation,” said O’Malley.
