Miss Chinese Vancouver winners have been crowned Miss Chinese International for a record-breaking 7 times in addition to one 1st Runner-up and two 2nd Runners-up

Applications are now open for the 30th anniversary of the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant.

The deadline to apply for this year’s pageant, sponsored by Richmond-based Fairchild TV, is Aug. 28 at 5 p.m.

This annual event inspires young Chinese women aged 17 to 27 to showcase their talents, stated the news release announcing the pageant.

Other requirements for eligibility include being a Canadian resident and never having been married or pregnant.

Since 2022, the beauty pageant Miss Universe allows mothers and married women to participate, and they removed the age requirements of the competition at the start of 2024.

Fairchild TV promotion executive Ruby Chau said the winner of Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant will be representing the city to compete at the Miss Chinese International Pageant in Asia, and in order to be eligible, it must meet these requirements set by the organizer HK-TVB.

“In the event that TVB changes the terms and conditions of the MCIP, we might consider to follow suit,” she said.

For three decades, the Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant and its mentors have provided guidance and support to contestants in image design, styling, modelling and stage presentation.

Previous winners boast a track record in the Miss Chinese International Pageant, surpassing all other cities worldwide with a total of seven titles.

This includes Bernice Liu (2000), Linda Chung (2003), Leanne Li (2004), Eliza Sam (2009) and Gloria Tang (2012).

Contestants of Miss Chinese Vancouver have also moved on to be crowned Miss Hong Kong, including 2005 “Vivacious Beauty Award” winner Kayi Cheung, 2009 1st runner-up Carat Cheung and 2012 1st runner-up Veronica Shiu.

Other participants have seen doors open in various sectors of the entertainment industry.

Another important aspect of the pageant is charity, as winners have served in various community roles for the last 30 years, stated the release.

“Many MCV have been honoured as the ambassadors for the Canadian Cancer Society, helping to promote cancer prevention awareness,” the release stated. “They have also emceed fundraising events and galas for organizations like SUCCESS, the Diabetes Canada, Canadian Liver Foundation, and Care BC, and volunteered their time to continue the pageant's legacy of compassion.”
