Police were spotted near the Richmond Olympic Oval on Dec. 2 after a loud commotion was heard in the area.

A loud commotion heard near the Richmond Olympic Oval was caused by police arresting a wanted man, according to VPD.

Nearly two weeks ago, on Dec. 2, a loud "explosion" and what sounded like gunshots were reportedly heard near Elmbridge and Alderbridge Ways.

Richmond resident Rogina Wang told The Richmond News that she saw police arresting someone, and a nearby store owner also saw "several policemen" running past her store.

It turns out the commotion was related to a Vancouver police operation.

According to VPD spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin, members from VPD's emergency response team were in the area to arrest a man "wanted on several BC-wide warrants."

However, Visintin did not provide an explanation as to what the loud explosion was.

The News has reached out to VPD with further comments but didn't hear back by publication deadline.
