Dozens of artworks are being displayed at Lipont Place on No. 3 Road this weekend and some of them were created by young talents from around the world.
And the youngest one is only six years old while the oldest is 21.
These art pieces were carefully selected from 557 submissions from all over the world, a selection process which was not easy, according to the event organizer and artist Maggie Li, who has been hosting the Canada Youth Visual Art Contest for over five years.
“This year’s competition theme is ‘love and care’ and ‘climate change.’ We put a call out earlier this year, and our jury’s email boxes flowed with hundreds of entries within a month,” said Li.
“Each submission tells a compelling story through stunning drawings, paintings, digital art and sculptures. We are amazed by children’s creativity and understanding of the world.”
One of the artworks featured a young kid giving his father hugs while his dad worked hard next to his desk.
“This artwork showcases children’s love for their parents. It captures the simplest moments in our daily life, but these moments could be lasting, beautiful memories,” said Li.
This year’s judges include Andrew McDermott, president and member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Canadian artist Danielle Coleman, New York-based animator and artist Will Colpoys, Maureen-Garvin, dean of the School of Fine Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Li said people interested in these artwork can buy them and all donations will go directly towards the BC Children’s Hospital.
