Despite rumours to the contrary, BC Liquor Stores will remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The province announced Friday around noon that the government liquor stores will still be open, but with adjusted hours of operation to cope with enhanced cleaning schedules.

The stores will also be observing new capacity rules in order to maintain the safe, two-metre, social distancing rules.

Store opening times may vary, so people are being advised to check the store’s website at BCliquorStores.com/store/locator.

A government press release said Friday that there is “no shortage of beer, wine and spirits in B.C.” but that an increase in sales and customers has “led to challenges in keeping shelves properly stocked.

“The adjusted hours will allow staff to ensure products are available for customers at a time when stores have been experiencing staffing shortages.

“In addition, if landlords or shopping malls are limiting hours, the Liquor Distribution Branch will be required to reduce operating hours accordingly.”

As the COVID-19 situation evolves, the government said it “continues to explore additional temporary measures to support the hospitality industry. New opportunities will be communicated with the public as they become available.”
