Richmond cyclists will soon get a new 1.6 km bike lane along Minoru Boulevard, connecting Granville Avenue with Alderbridge Way.
Bike BC is also planning intersection improvements to Garden City Road and Granville Avenue, where a 100-metre refuge area for cyclists and a pedestrian activated signal will improve safety for cyclists to cross the busy intersection.
The cost of the two projects, $47,500 and $48,850 respectively, will be shared equally between the provincial and municipal governments.
"Cycling 10 kilometres to and from work every day reduces your greenhouse gas emissions by 15,000 kilograms a year. These improvements to our cycling infrastructure are not only good for the environment, though. They will also increase the safety of cyclists," Richmond Centre MLA Rob Howard, as the cycling infrastructure funding was announced today (Friday.)
These projects are two of 17 that are benefiting from a total investment of $1 million through Bike BC Cycling Infrastructure Partnerships Program.
