When it came to what was most popular during Sundays Richmond Nature Park Blueberry Sale and Tea, it was a toss up between the blueberries and the pony rides.
We sold out our blueberries in two hours and the pony rides were also hugely popular with the kids, said Chris Bauder, Richmond Nature Park coordinator. Parents and kids waited patiently waiting in line for an hour for a pony ride.
To see the smiles on these urban kids faces was great.
The sun was shining for the more than 800 people who showed up to enjoy the nature park, buy the juicy blueberries and bite into a slice of blueberry pie.
The blueberry fundraiser has been going on for more than a decade now, with all the proceeds supporting the educational programs the nature park runs each year.
We raised more than $1,500 this year, Bauder said. We couldnt put on this event, which we call our feel-good event, without the BC Blueberry Council, which donates 500 pounds of blueberries to us each year.
The event also increases our profile and brings people to the nature park.
