The first shipments of COVID vaccine will arrive in Canada before the end of the year.
That’s according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced Monday morning that the country will be getting the vaccine earlier than expected.
Trudeau said the government has signed an agreement with vaccine manufacturer Pfizer to receive up to 249,000 doses.
Previously, sometime early in January was the expected date for the first shipment.
Although it has still to be approved by Health Canada, the first shipment could arrive in the country as early as next week, with Pfizer having submitted its final documents to the health agency on Friday.
It’s expected that the first shipments of the vaccine will be offered to frontline and emergency workers.
