Cannery targets teens

With help from an $8,000 grant from the Pacific Salmon Foundation, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society is creating an interactive touch-screen exhibit targeting teens.

With help from an $8,000 grant from the Pacific Salmon Foundation, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society is creating an interactive touch-screen exhibit targeting teens.

It will build on the themes explored in their temporary exhibit, Seafood for Thought.

The cannery has long been a popular destination for elementary school trips.

With the new exhibit prompting discussion about contemporary topics, cannery staff say it will draw more people from the wider community.

The touch-screen display will allow visitors to interact with a simulation program and use different methods of catching seafood to observe the impacts on the environment.

Cannery staff say this will encourage discussion about impacts of commercial fisheries and consumers making ocean-friendly seafood choices.

The content for the exhibit is being created in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation and will be available in French and English.
